Why does Steve Ballmer talk?
October 12th, 2007I almost feel sorry for Microsoft having this guy in charge. At least Bill Gates had some tech savvy and sense of reality. Steve Ballmer seems to truly see things in terms of money. As in, “we have the most money and therefore we are the best.”
Bill Gates is leaving Microsoft, probably because he knows nothing can be done to plug the holes in the sinking ship that is Windows. He made his mark, and it’s time to get out. Ballmer, on the other hand, is like Al Pacino at the end of Scarface — all coked up and in a gun fight with an entire drug cartel — which is a terrible plan.
Maybe he’s heard “say hello to my little friend!” once too many times, enough to ignore the fact that Pacino’s character dies in that scene.
I picture the mind of Steve Ballmer as being a little tazmanian devil zipping around from place to place — dust tornadoes everywhere — starting little battles without any understanding of tech culture, other than that tech culture buys stuff.
I look at the empire that is Microsoft — the empire that Gates built — and I look at Ballmer and think, this guy?

“Ballmer, on the other hand, is like Al Pacino at the end of Scarface — all coked up and in a gun fight with an entire drug cartel”
That imagery made the whole post.
