Revolution OS
May 20th, 2007
Revolution OS is a documentary from 2001 that “tells the inside story of the hackers who rebelled against the proprietary software model and Microsoft to create GNU/Linux and the Open Source movement.” It is available and downloadable from google video.
Revolution OS basically documents the history of free software, open source and Linux. Featured in the film are Richard Stallman, Linus Torvalds and Bruce Perens, among others, and although it was made half a decade ago, the points and ideologies are still very relevant today, if not even more so. There is also a recitation of An Open Letter To Hobbyists, the now infamous letter that Bill Gates wrote back in 1976, and of which I had never heard before yesterday.
I’ll say no more; check out the flick.
